THE TITICACA LAKE
Information
From the depths of Titicaca
If we talk about mysteries, Lake Titicaca houses different legends that characterize this attraction located in southern Peru, exactly in Puno. On the one hand, it is pointed out that Lake Titicaca is the place where the world began, that is, it is the origin of everything. On the other hand, the Puno population comments that the two founders of the Inca empire emerged from the depths of Lake Titicaca there: Manco Cápac and Mama Ocllo.
The first theory frames the God Viracocha, who is said to have come out of the depths of Lake Titicaca and created the world as we know it. Thus, among all that he created is the Inti (Sun), Killa (Moon) and the stars. The second theory addresses his children: Manco Cápac and Mama Ocllo, who emerged from Titicaca and had the mission of founding the Inca empire, the most powerful culture that prevailed in Peru.
The truth is that today Lake Titicaca, Natural Heritage of Peru, is one of the main tourist attractions in our country, since it is the highest navigable lake in the world with 3812 meters above sea level with a wealth of flora and autochthonous fauna from which the economy of the population that inhabits its islands and surroundings revolves.
